Since I'm in my 8 year...workplace issues are more than intriguing to me. One of the things that I've been experimenting with is employee identification numbers.*
Some workplaces don't have them...some do. Back when I was working with a dotcom, it was the fashion to give everyone a t-shirt with their employee id number on it...to determin which wave of hiring you were from. I started noticing that some of the very, very successful employes had master numbers. As for me, I think mine calculated to a 4 (see my core numbers)...which is probably why I wasn't overly excited by the job.
In my current firm, I've taken to doing the same calculations and have developed a working theory. My sense is that your employee id number (if you have one) sets the tone for your purpose or path with the company. If you work the path of your employee id number you fulfill the role assigned to you by the organization. Positively working the energies of your employee id does not necessarily guarantee you will be satisfied with your tenure there... but it may give you a path to success where you are planted.
Take for example my employee id for my current day job. It adds up to a 24/6. According to my working hypothesis my efforts at this firm will meet with success if I am an emotional caretaker, if I am protective,, loving and idealistic and relate well to co-workers. It also accents creative visual skills. My desk decor should also emphasize bright colors and steer away from pastels . It should be a place of peace with a personal touch.**
So how does this square with what I actually do? I'm a technical support person, helping staff negotiate many types of technology. I'm not exactly what you'd call a gearhead or geek...I know enough to keep myself out of trouble and solve a good percentage of problems. I know of many fellow co-workers who are much better skilled in this field than I...but typically people seek me out. Why?
It goes back to those relating skills. I have a karmic 6 and I've largely worked through the relating issues... I try to make staff feel comfortable, I make sure to relate to their frustration and anxiety...in effect I do alot of hand holding and people appreciate this effort. On my best days, I follow up on problems with a parental zeal, making it my mission to bring some sort of emotional closure to each and every interaction. When I work this path positively, people literally gush over my assistance...even if the service I'm providing is negligible!
While all of us at the firm are issued standard beige cubicles, I've decorated mine with bold greens and reds. I have placed a small bookcase in front the cube opening to create more of a cloistered save haven (purview of the 6). On top of the book case I've placed lots of different plastic critters...because it helps set the tone for all interactions...playful and personal. And I've posted very colorful photographs and illustrations on the cubicle walls which heighten the aesthetic (also 6 energy).
Am I happy here? At times. It is not what I consider a soul quenching position. To my mind there's a bit too much drudge involved to my liking (that's the background 4 number...still working on it) and I am at everyone's beck and call (2 background number) a good deal more than my 1 Life Path would like.
Moreover, since 6 and 4 are not one of my core numbers...I have to work at incorporating them into my frame of reference...so when I'm really hating my job, I'm rejecting the responsibilitiy and obligation of a 6 and the detailed focus of the 4. My whole numerological drama is played out here day in and day out as I learn to master unfamiliar energies. That being said, I do get a surprising (for me) sense of satisfaction from the positive feedback I receive from those I assist , which is coincidentally, the positive expressions of a 6 and a 4.
That in conjunction with other factors, keeps me working here. Even so, I constantly dream of chucking this employer altogether to open up my own business...not so surprising for a 1.
See how it works? Whether or not I changed positions at this workplace (promotions, laterals, demotions, etc.) , these energies would still be what would ensure my success...it'd be a requirement for every job here. It'd be the role I'd be obliiged to play. I imagine that when I finally master the karmic lessons of my missing 4 and 6...I'll find a way to move on and out successfully. But until that time, my reality gives me what I need to pay the bills...and my karmic debts.
Calculation methods:
- Note down all of the alpha-numeric characters in your employee id number.
- Convert all letters to their base number.
- Add each number together separately. Before you reduce that sum to it's
base number, take note of the compound number and consider how it
influences the pure energy of the base number.
-----------------------------------------
*I want to distinguish between employee identifications numbers and position numbers. The latter I believe are a less stable indicator of experience. A so-called employee id number would be the number assigned to you for your entire tenure at an employer. A position number, in contrast, would change as you changed jobs within the same company. Larger trends tend to make a greater impact in our lives...so if an individual worked at one firm for over five years the employee id number would have a greater sway because it would be in effect longer. Following this logic, a person's social security number could theoretically bring to bear the highest, broadest influence...but that's another column!
